About Kani Kine Rumba
Born in the sugar-cane fields of Maui, Kani Kine Rumba is more than just a rhythm, it’s a meeting of worlds. When workers came from places like Portugal, Spain, Japan, and the Philippines, they brought their music, their hands, and their stories. Over time, those sounds mixed with the heartbeat of Hawai‘i, the ukulele, the conga, the laughter, the rain, until something new was born.
That sound became Kani Kine Rumba, fiery like the Gypsy strings of Spain, warm like the island breeze, and full of the laughter, hustle, and hope that still live in Hawai‘i’s people today.
This music is a reflection of the world we live in now, different cultures, different roots, blending together to tell one story: how we keep going, keep smiling, and keep singing, no matter how hard the times.
Kani Kine Rumba reminds us that even when we’re broke, barefoot, or chasing rainbows for rent, aloha always finds a beat. 🌺🎶
